SureSmile clear aligners have eliminated much of the stress and inconvenience of orthodontic treatment. The process of using aligners to straighten your teeth is fairly simple, yet they produce outstanding results! What is the SureSmile treatment, and how does it work?
Dr. Osayomore Eguakun from Divine Dental Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, outlines the steps to achieving a gorgeous smile with SureSmile below:
The SureSmile process starts with a consultation to determine whether it is the best treatment for you. During your consultation, we’ll thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, and bite, take x-rays, and assess the problems that need to be fixed. We’ll also discuss your goals for this treatment. SureSmile works best at correcting mild to moderate problems with crowded teeth, uneven spacing, bite problems, and tooth misalignments. Severe bite problems or other complex issues may need traditional braces to fix.
After your dental exam, we’ll scan your teeth and make 3D impressions to plan your procedure. SureSmile uses the latest in digital scanning technology for greater accuracy and precision in mapping out the movements of your teeth. We’ll plan your treatment from start to finish, so you’ll have a preview of the final results before you start. If you’re happy with how your new smile will be, we’ll proceed with your treatment.
When your treatment plan is finalized, we’ll send it to SureSmile manufacturers to have a series of aligners custom-made for your use. Each set of aligners is distinct and has a role to play in your treatment. Once your aligners are prepared, we will invite you to our office for a fitting. For optimal performance, the aligners should have a snug, comfortable fit. We’ll then go over the instructions on aligner care and use.
Since the aligners can be taken out, it is your responsibility to use them for the specified duration, which is between 20 and 22 hours each day. You’ll remove the aligners for snacks and meals, including beverages other than water, and oral hygiene. Afterward, you’ll place the aligners back on your teeth. Every few weeks, you’ll switch to the next set of aligners in your series per the guidelines in your treatment plan. We’ll schedule appointments every 6 to 8 weeks to monitor your progress. At this time, we’ll adjust your plan or aligners accordingly, if needed, to keep you on track with your treatment plan.
When your treatment is complete and your smile goals are achieved, we’ll give you a final set of aligners to wear at night to prevent your teeth from reverting to their former position. By using these aligners as instructed, you can keep your smile well-aligned for life.
